Calibration Laboratory Manager

We are a well-established multiple location electrical test instrument calibration, service and repair business. We currently have a vacancy for a highly motivated individual in our expanding Calibration Department in the Newcastle-Under-Lyme area. You will oversee a multi skilled team of engineers reporting in to the Technical Director. We also have two satellite offices based in the North East and South West of the country, each with calibration and repair engineers who will require support.

As a Calibration Laboratory Manager, you should have a good knowledge of electrical engineering/calibration processes with some understanding of electronic/software systems and be able to back this up with relevant qualifications or experience gained during your career development.

This role is predominately office based but also may require travelling to various customer locations and our other sites around the UK. As required by customers during busy periods and for staffing logistic reasons.

The Role and Responsibilities:

This opportunity is for an experienced and motivated laboratory manager to support and manage our internal and external calibration team. The role will include the following key responsibilities:

  • Managing the calibration engineers and their workloads and utilisation.
  • Develop, implement and improve laboratory procedures for efficient operations in accordance with the company’s quality management system;
  • Plan and oversee maintenance, calibration and verification of laboratory equipment;
  • Support inventory activities of the laboratories;
  • Ensure equipment suitability and availability.
  • Maintain and meet Key Performance Indicators in a busy customer driven service environment.
  • Assist in the ongoing expansion of laboratory calibration capability.
  • Create training materials and train personnel as and when required.

The following experience / characteristics are required/preferred:

  • Hold a technical qualification such as ONC, HND, HNC, NVQ/BTEC Level 3 and above or demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of calibration and accredited (UKAS) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of calibration practices and theories preferred.
  • Knowledge in Windows-based applications and laboratory automation software preferred.
  • Experience of working within a customer focused environment
  • Good communication and organisational skills are essential.
  • Experience in supervising and managing a team.
  • Full UK Driving licence.

Job specific training will be provided.
